Fitter after 40 years old
Hi All:
I'm new to this forum, so I'd better introduce myself. I'm 43 and I'm in the shape of my life, and I've been active most of my life. I'm leaner, stronger, more powerful and more agile than I was when I was twenty. It's all about training in the right way rather than the way you see at the majority of 'Big Gyms'. I have some great fitness routines that I use that get maximum results without having to spend hours at a gym.
What irritates me most is when I hear so called experts say we should strength train because we start losing muscle mass as we get older, as if losing muscle is a by product of aging. Complete rubbish! Those who exercise, strength train (properly) and eat well as they've always done, don't lose muscle mass or hormone production, so what's ageing got to do with it? People lose muscle (fitness, agility, metabolism etc and gain body fat) because they slow down, not because they grow older - it's not related in any way whatsoever.
Wondering what your opinions are on this? Or do you have some examples of what can be done? Being older does not mean that you automatically become un fit.
I'm working on a blog with many examples of how you can be fitter after 40 as below:-

Best wishes

Jack LaLanne at Age 93
Good article below, showing that you can be lean even when you are 93!

Re: Fitter after 40 years old
Hi Mike - great to hear you are fitter than ever and it proves that age is NOT a barrier when it comes to achieving your fitness and health goals.
I have started to play competitive rugby again after many years at the age of 34 and there are a lot of guys in our team who are in their 40s and fitter than the younger guys!
I will have a read of your blog when I get a chance - is there any way to read the article in that link without signing up to the advertising popup that comes up though?

Hi:
Great news on your rugby return. I see no reason, besides serious injury, why 30 and 40 year+ olds can't return to former fitness. You've just got to train smarter and at a high intensity.
Yes, it seems that you can't get past the pop at the moment on the Jack Lalanne article.
Here's a link to his website though:-
