If you want to consider the features, WeChat is feature rich app. WhatsApp, on the other hand, is a popular app and thus the chances of finding your friends on WhatsApp are more than finding them on WeChat. Moreover, WeChat lets you chat with people physically close to you.

Whatsapp is more popular in the world therefor I'd say it is the superior app as asking someone for the wechat would result in some puzzled faces.
